About the research

Unfortunately, we are regularly startled by the sudden death of a young athlete. Often an error in the genes is the cause of heart failure. Ewa Sieliwonczyk (UAntwerp) looks at zebrafish for this. She explains the link in this video.

An enormous interest in the study of human genetics prompted Ewa Sieliwonczyk to start a PhD with the cardiogenetics group at the University of Antwerp after her medical training. There she works on zebrafish to better understand genetic changes of patients with hereditary heart disease. Her goal is to link scientific results directly to clinical practice. In this way, she hopes to transfer her enthusiasm for genetics and science to the patient.
