About the research

Everywhere in Flanders you can find beautiful historical buildings, such as belfries and castles. They have been there for hundreds of years, but keeping all this historical heritage healthy is no easy task. Think of moisture problems and mold growth. And what about climate change? Is our heritage protected against it? Bruno Vanderschelden (UGent - UAntwerpen) investigates this.

Bruno Vanderschelden started researching historical masonry and their moistuer related pathologies during his master thesis. Fascinated by the subject, he started researching how to detect and remedy moisture problems with the help of HAM-simulations. During his PhD he wants to make these simulations more accurate and apply them to Belgian heritage.
