About the research

How come drugs have long leaflets with a whole list of possible side effects? That is what Hanne Leysen (UAntwerpen - FWO) investigates: how are signals when taking medication, transmitted in our body? Signals can follow different communication paths and, as such, have different effects šŸ‘‰ šŸŽ„.

Hanne Leysen is aPhD researcher in biomedical sciencesĀ at the University of Antwerp. With her PhD, she is devoted to making a real difference in the biomedical field. She'sĀ helping us understand the incredible complexity of human aging-related disease. 2020 is the first time that the elderly (<65) outnumbers the young (>5) on earth making her research incredibly timely. To create anti-aging therapies sheĀ investigates how G protein-coupled receptors can be selectively activated to make ā€˜precision medicinesā€™ with greater potency and fewer side effects.
