About the research

Every three seconds, someone in the world is diagnosed with dementia. But what causes it? Dementia can be caused by diseases such as Alzheimer's & Parkinson's. The only way to find out the exact cause is by studying the brain tissue of a patient after his death 🧠  Yaël Hirschberg hopes to develop a method of identifying this earlier so that a patient can receive targeted care even before the first symptoms of dementia appear. Watch her explain how

Yael Hirschberg thinks human biology is fascinating and in combination with the desire to contribute to a better future, this led to a diploma in biomedical sciences-neurosciences. After completing an internship at the Brain Institute in Paris, her interest in proteins and dementia was awakened. She then started a PhD project in this research area at the University of Antwerp and VITO. This project currently paves the way for a carrier of endless learning in the research area of her interest and is lightning her natural curiosity even more.
