About the research

For many, being young is the most beautiful time in life. But did you know that 1 in 5 children is born into poverty? They are given fewer opportunities in life In order to better support such youngsters in Ghent, Wendy Eerdekens (Arteveldehogeschool) wants to improve the cooperation between the many initiatives in aid and youth work.

Wendy Eerdekens has 20 years of practical experience as a social worker in youth care and as a system therapist in a children's team at a mental health centre. She is currently a lecturer and researcher at the Bachelor's programme in social work at the Arteveldehogeschool. There too, working with children, adolescents and families remains her field of interest. Her great respect for people who survive in difficult circumstances and for the right of children and young people to have every opportunity, is what she conveys to her students. With her research projects, she strives to contribute to a form of assistance that focuses on what children, young people and families actually need.
