LED lights: The lighthouses of the future?

About the research

GPS is a wonderful technology. Unfortunately, it is of no use in large buildings, such as hospitals and airports, because concrete blocks GPS signals. But Robin Amsters (KU Leuven - FWO) is working on a solution. He explains how lightning-fast flickering LED lights will guide us and our robots indoors in the future.

Unable to restrict himself to a single interest, Robin Amsters chose robotics as his field of study. At the overlap of multiple disciplines, Robin feels most comfortable. His current work concerns the localization of indoor robots. He is a member of the intelligent mobile platforms (IMP) group in KU Leuven. The focus of his PhD is to enable the large-scale application of positioning with visible light signals, and to make the technology exit the lab.
