About the research

Did you know that besides basic physical needs, such as sleeping and eating, you also have basic psychological needs? You will not die immediately if these psychological needs are not fulfilled, but it can make you very unhappy. Daphne van den Boogaard (Ghent University) explains what these needs are and how you can train to manage your own happiness.

Why do some people seem to make full use of their potential, while others rather avoid chances to grow? Is it possible to train your sense of what you need to grow as a person and to develop the skill to take actual action? Working for 10 years in a forensic psychiatric hospital for adolescents, triggered Daphne van den Boogaard to dive into research to find answers to these questions. Self determination theory forms the foundation for this search.
