About the research

Notice a spider? Don't run away screaming, but grab your phone and photograph it with the brand-new "Spider Spotter" app from Bram Vanthournout (Ghent University). In this way, you can help him research whether spiders evolve differently in the city than in the countryside as a result of climate change.

Bram Vanthournout is a biologist and researcher at UGent. He studies spiders to solve evolutionary questions. He investigated why some spiders have more females than males (spoiler: bacteria that kill males but leave females untouched are the cause). He is currently investigating whether spiders can adapt to urban life by means of colour in the SPIN-CITY project.
