About the research

Did you know that our body contains more than 20.000 different proteins? These are crucial for vital functions such as wound healing. But when proteins mutate, they can lead to diseases such as Alzheimer's. To help fight such protein-based diseases, Shorok Abdelhameed (KU Leuven - FWO) investigates methods to study the very complex structures of proteins.

Shorok Abdelhameed is a PhD student at the Department of Chemistry, KULeuven. Her enthusiasm for understanding the structure of proteins, the building blocks of life, motivates her to carry out her doctoral research in the field of bioinorganic chemistry. In her research, she is trying to develop new compounds based on metal oxides, which could contribute to the understanding of protein structures.
