Unmasking bank risk

About the research

In 2008 banks took too many risks and lied about their true condition. Their collapse led to a worldwide financial crisis, that had a huge impact on society. You may think that everything is better now, but is it? Or do banks only look safer than they really are? That's what Elizaveta Sizova (KU Leuven) is investigating to assess bank risk.

Every day we all use bank services one way or another, so does Elizaveta Sizova. In her finance studies, Elizaveta learned that banks are fragile institutions and their failures can have a huge impact on society. Her PhD research focuses on bank risk and the design of bank regulation with the purpose to build a more financially stable world and prevent future financial crises.
