A cosmic dance: understanding double star systems

About the research

Did you know that more than half of the stars you see in the sky are born with a partner? Just like with humans, the presence of a partner can really have an effect on the life and the behavior of a star. During her PhD Ana Escorza (KU Leuven) studied hundreds of these stars to find out more about interactions in double star systems.

Ana Escorza is a physicist, astronomer, science enthusiast and book lover. She's currently finishing a PhD in Astronomy at KU Leuven and ULB. Her research tries to answer questions about interactions in double star systems, because, believe it or not, stars like partner dancing as well. Ana does science for a living, but she also works hard to make it accessible for everyone because she firmly believes that science, in all its forms, can be a lot of fun!
