About the research

A hole in your sock 🧦, your memory 🧠, your hand 💸 ... We've seen it all. But what about a hole in the eardrum of your ear? 👂 "You wouldn't expect it, but such holes are common, especially after chronic ear infections," explains Pieter Livens (UAntwerpen). He studies such holes to see how we can smoothly repair the eardrum. Hear hear!

Pieter Livens is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Bio- & Medical Physics (BIMEF). His research focuses on better understanding the mechanics of the eardrum and ossicles. In this way, he aims to develop better techniques to help people with hearing damage hear again. You can find him in his (vegetable) garden or in a kayak on the Albert Canal in his spare time.
