About the research

Does extraterrestrial life exist? To date, Thomas Konings (KU Leuven) has yet to discover any extraterrestrial neighbors. But he is diligently searching further. That search for extraterrestrial life starts with the search for habitable planets. To do this, Thomas and his colleagues look at exoplanets, planets outside our solar system. But how do you study planets billions of kilometers away from us? Thomas tells you in this video.

Thomas Konings is an planetary astrophysicist with a Bsc in Physics and Msc in astrophysics from KU Leuven. Driven by a fascination with the origins of life and a curiosity about the atmospheres and climates of other planets, he decided to pursue a PhD at the Institute of Astronomy at KU Leuven. His PhD research focuses on how starlight affects the physics and chemistry of exoplanet atmospheres, a crucial step in understanding the observations of exoplanets.
