Recommendations in Academic Social Networks

About the research

Researchers use so-called academic social networks, "facebook for scientists", to find scientific papers to read and researchers to follow or collaborate with. As is the case with facebook, these academic social networks use algorithms to make recommendations to their users. But according to Luciana Monteiro Krebs we don't know enough about those algorithms and how they can influence research practices. What if these algorithms are unknowingly influencing researchers' activities, determining what papers they read and what they should work on next?
