Even as a child, Michiel Van Tendeloo was fascinated by nature and... lego. He developed these interests further during his training as a bio-engineer. In his doctoral research at the University of Antwerp, Michiel examines how we can use microbes as smart building blocks to solve social problems. His research focuses on innovative nitrogen removal for the transition to energy-positive sewage treatment.
