Why do we administer vaccines through an injection into the blood stream, while viruses such as the COVID virus enter our bodies through the nose? For this reason, Ilke Van Tente (UAntwerpen) is working on vaccines in the form of a nasal spray. "Nasal sprays can provide more effective protection by producing antibodies directly in the mucous membranes of the nose. This ensures fewer infections and better protection for vulnerable people.
