Wired for recovery

About the research

A stroke changes someone's life completely, often leading to some form of disability. Recovery is difficult since neurons die as a result of blocked blood vessels, leaving behind tiny cavities in stroke survivors' brains. In her research, Ugur Kilic (KU Leuven - FWO) is trying to reach and stimulate the surviving neurons around the cavities to take the role of the lost ones and enhance recovery. How? By implanting a miniature device in the brain!
