About the research

The theme 'ecology' is in the spotlight more than ever. But did you know that French writers like Pierre Gascar sounded the alarm 50 years ago in their novels? Literature researcher Sara Buekens (UGent) is studying these works to see how writers wanted to put environmental issues on the agenda decades ago. Are you ready for an ecological novel?

After her studies Language and Literature: French-Latin at UGent, Sara Buekens obtained a research master's degree at the Sorbonne in Paris, which allowed her to further specialize in French 20th century literature. Passionate about plants and animals, in her PhD at UGent (FWO) she now investigates how French authors have been addressing ecological problems in fiction since the Second World War.
