About the research

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased awareness about the importance of indoor ventilation. But measuring indoor air quality and ventilation rates often requires eco-unfriendly substances or complex and expensive equipment. Luckily, Sarah Lima Paralovo (Universiteit Gent - VITO) is developing a simple method to measure ventilation rates: the tracer gas test. Find out all about it in this video.

Sarah Lima Paralovo has come a long way in her academic life. Quite literally, as she started research in the field of air quality over a decade ago on the other side of the Atlantic, in Brazil. Back there she earned a bachelor's and a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering while studying air pollution in the Amazon region. In 2017 she came to Belgium to pursue her Ph.D., this time in Architectural Engineering. In her Ph.D. research, she is developing a more practical and accessible method to quantify ventilation in buildings.
