Dementia: detecting agitation using sensors

About the research

What if we could predict whether a person with dementia is about to become agitated? That would help caregivers intervene in time and direct their attention to this person, so as to prevent agitation onset. That's what Hannah Davidoff (KU Leuven - Imec) hopes to achieve. Using wearables and other sensors, she builds algorithms to detect agitation.

Hannah has always been a passionate user of the words ‘why’ and ‘how’ and using them to understand how our bodies and brains work better. The question ‘how can I use health data X to solve Y’ drove Hannah to study Human Health Engineering and combine that knowledge with data science, striving to predict agitation in people with dementia using AI applied to sensor data.
