About the research

Biologist Sébastjen Schoenaers (UAntwerpen) sees how his son Ferre grows fast. Yet he grows 150 times slower than an ordinary corn leaf 🌱 We still don't understand how plants do this. So Sébastjen wants to zoom in on the plant at a molecular level to find out how it really grows 🔬 That could help us grow plants better and faster.

Sébastjen Schoenaers is a passionate scientist with a heart for nature and complex problems. As a molecular biologist at the UAntwerpen and INRAE (FR), he tries to unravel how plants and their cells grow. In this way, he hopes to gain fundamental insights that will drastically change the way we look at plants and the applications that arise from them.
