About the research

Steven Puttemans (KU Leuven) trains computers so that they learn to see and understand their surroundings. For example, he worked on a strawberry picking robot, that is able to distinguish ripe from unripe strawberries. He explains how this works in this video.

Steven Puttemans works as a post-doctoral researcher in computer vision and artificial intelligence at the KU Leuven. Within the EAVISE research group, he focuses on translating state-of-the-art 2D and 3D object detection algorithms into useful and robust solutions for industrial challenges. In his research, he tries to keep the manual input of data as low as possible in order to obtain a fully automatic self-learning system.
