About the research

What happens when you ask thousands of Flemish people to send samples of their stools for scientific research? 💩 Well, you get this huge pile of... data. 🤷‍♂️ Sebastian Proost (VIB - KU Leuven) makes these complex data readily available to doctors and scientists so that they can acquire new insights in an efficient manner.

Unable to decide between studying biology and computer science, Sebastian was able to get the best of both by pursuing a PhD in Bioinformatics. He currently works as a postdoc in the group of Jeroen Raes (KULeuven – VIB) and develops software that makes complex datasets, such as the Flemish Gut Flora Project, accessible through a user-friendly interface. This allows scientist and doctors to gain new insights from these data efficiently.
