About the research

Have you ever seen a timber-frame building? You might be wondering how safe such a structure actually is. Well, the truth is that we don't quite know yet. Structural engineer Dries Byloos (UHasselt) tells you why and how he is working towards safer and higher timber-frame buildings. Timber!

Gaint, complex and nice looking buildings are what inspired Dries Byloos to study construction. He noticed that his preferences mostly lied in sustainable and circular materials. This preference was also supported due to his interest in improving the climate. This led Dries to the material of timber. Through improving the knowledge in timber construction, Dries tries to create a more circular building sector and simultaneously lower the CO2-emission.
